Mudwater brings Bored Ape Yacht Club artwork into a trading card game with physical collectibles and digital counterparts on Solana. Yuga Labs launched the collection Oct. 17 during ApeFest. Eligible Bored Ape holders can claim 10 packs per NFT, while Mutant Ape holders receive two.

You can explore the game through Mudwater’s official game page, which offers guest access. Collecting involves separate choices: claiming or buying packs, opening them into individual cards and eventually converting between physical and digital formats. Here’s how those pieces fit together.

What is Mudwater?

Mudwater combines a competitive card game with a BAYC collectible release. Its first set, Swamp Origins, features 120 artworks, including foil, serialized and cracked-ice variants. BAYC describes the project as a way to collect its artwork physically while keeping it connected to blockchain ownership.

The announced production run contains 10,000 boxes. With 24 packs per box and 10 cards per pack, that works out to 240,000 packs and 2.4 million cards. These are supply figures for the set; individual artworks and variants have different availability. BAYC’s announcement introduces the artwork and finishes, while its launch thread gives the pack and box quantities.

Launch coverage reports eight serialized cracked-ice one-of-one cards among the rarest variants. A one-of-one is a uniquely numbered edition with a single copy. Card rarity and gameplay strength are separate features to assess. Source: FinanceFeeds.

Why the ApeFest launch matters

Mudwater arrived at a gathering already built around collecting. ApeFest’s official schedule ran Oct. 15-18 in Charleston, South Carolina, with the main event at Beeple Studios on Saturday. The weekend included a BAYC pop-up at Charleston Union Station and a Sunday Otherside gathering. Its recurring slogan was simple: ‘Collectors Collect.’ The official itinerary puts the card launch inside a weekend of established community activities.

Physical distribution gave the announcement an immediate audience. The Bored Ape Gazette reported that attendees received a Mudwater box, with additional boxes available at the Sunday pop-up. That gave people a product to open, trade or take home while online holders worked through their digital claims. The Gazette’s report describes both parts of the rollout.

The following day, Orange Cap Games CEO Spencer Gordon-Sand posted about Figge and Beeple signing Mudwater cards at the ApeFest pop-up. The post captures an appeal familiar to physical collectors: an object can carry a connection to the people and event behind it.

For BAYC, that creates another activity around membership. Collectors can compare pulls and hunt for particular artwork. Friends who know the characters through an Ape holder can encounter them through a deck or a booster box. Whether that interest develops into regular play will depend on what happens after the launch weekend.

What Orange Cap Games brings to Mudwater

Orange Cap Games is a production partner on Mudwater, supplying the physical cards printed on its proprietary Orange Core paper. Its involvement connects BAYC’s release to a company already building trading card products around NFT-born characters. The partnership was identified in the launch coverage and acknowledged by Orange Cap Games on X.

The company created Vibes TCG using Pudgy Penguins intellectual property. Its website reports more than 4 million Vibes cards sold and a network of more than 100 retailers worldwide. Those are company-reported figures for Vibes, separate from Mudwater’s sales or distribution. Orange Cap also owns the Moonbirds, Mythics and Oddities brands. Source: Orange Cap Games.

That background matters because a physical card release involves manufacturing and distribution decisions alongside artwork and software. Packaging, print consistency and how cards withstand repeated handling all affect the experience. Orange Cap describes Orange Core as designed for shuffling durability and resistance to bending. The company markets that paper to other games seeking to improve their production process.

There is a useful precedent in Vibes for turning familiar digital characters into something people play and collect. Mudwater has its own rules and distribution model. Orange Cap’s participation establishes relevant production experience, while demand for BAYC cards will have to develop on its own.

Why is Mudwater on Solana?

The chain choice is one of the launch’s bigger talking points. BAYC’s original NFTs are on Ethereum, and Yuga has invested in ApeChain and Otherside. Mudwater’s collectible cards arrive on Solana, adding another network to the experience.

In an Oct. 17 post, Yuga Labs CEO Michael Figge called Mudwater the company’s first Solana collection. He framed the ApeCoin reward mechanism as a way to introduce APE to collectors already active there. He also outlined a future Glyph wallet update with a Solana address, intended to make Solana tokens and collections available within Otherside.

“ApeChain will remain the foundation for everything we’re building,” Figge wrote.

He said ApeChain communities and Otherside holders would receive Mudwater allocations in the following days. These were announced plans. The post does not establish that every allocation or wallet feature has already shipped. The Coinformer reproduced Figge’s post in its launch coverage.

Mudwater is our first collection on Solana, and an Ape Reflection is novel way to get $APE distribution to a wave of collectors already deeply involved on Solana

— figge (@mfigge) October 17, 2026

The practical implication is a collection spread across several interfaces. An existing Ape establishes claim eligibility. A Solana wallet holds the resulting packs. Otherside provides a setting for the game. Making those connections easy to understand will matter for anyone encountering Yuga through the cards.

How do you play Mudwater?

The official board’s rules describe a two-player game on a three-by-three grid. Players alternate placing one card per turn. Control the most squares when the board fills, or both players pass consecutively, to win.

Compare touching edges. Each card has four edge values. A higher value captures an adjacent opponent’s card across that edge.
Start with Level I. Empty squares accept Level I cards.
Upgrade your squares. Place a card exactly one level above a card you control. Levels run from I through V. An upgrade can capture adjacent cards.
Use rocks. Any card can go face down as an uncapturable Level I rock. Each player can have one active rock. Covering it with an upgrade allows another.
Watch family advantages. In advanced mode, the attacker’s family can break a tied edge value. A lower number still loses.

Yuga estimates roughly 10 minutes per game. The online board includes “Take a seat,” “Play the Oracle” and spectating controls. Its “How To Play?” panel provides the rules at the table.

Can you play with the cards you collect?

Keep the playable game and owned-card integration separate. Launch reporting describes Mudwater in Otherside using demonstration cards, with support for players’ on-chain collections still in development.

Coverage also describes an Ante mode in which each player puts up three cards and the winner receives one randomly selected opposing card. That description should not be read as confirmation that the current public game transfers your collectible NFTs. Source: AirdropAlert’s launch report.

The practical starting point is the public game. Learn the board before making collecting decisions around future gameplay features.

Who can claim free packs?

The official claim page lists these allocations:

Eligible NFT	Packs	Cards if opened
One Bored Ape	10	100
One Mutant Ape	2	20

Claims close Jan. 19, 2027, at midnight UTC. That is 7 p.m. Eastern on Jan. 18.

The site asks you to connect an Ethereum wallet to check your Totems, the claim mechanism associated with eligible Apes. Your digital packs and cards live on Solana. Mudwater’s inventory page uses a Solana wallet to display your collection.

If you are acquiring an Ape with this drop in mind, check its remaining eligibility before assuming it comes with unclaimed packs. An NFT’s collection membership and its current claim status are separate things to verify.

How to get started

Open the official claim page. Use mudwater.bayc.com/claim/ and check the domain before connecting.
Check your allocation. Connect the Ethereum wallet associated with your eligible NFTs and review the Totems shown.
Confirm your Solana destination. CryptoTicker reports that the receiving address locks after your first successful claim.
Review the transaction cost. Check Ethereum gas and cross-chain messaging fees before signing.
Check delivery in Inventory. Open Mudwater’s inventory page with your Solana wallet to see delivered assets.

The published claim walkthrough also describes the address lock and transaction fees. Review the connected interface before signing.

What does claiming and opening cost?

The holder allocation is free, with network and cross-chain fees payable separately. Launch reports quote 8 USDC to open each pack and a planned 10 USDC conversion fee between physical and digital cards. Conversion remains marked “coming soon” on the official site.

At that rate, opening 10 packs costs 80 USDC; two cost 16 USDC, excluding claim fees. Check the live quote before proceeding. Source: CryptoTicker.

The official opening page explains the irreversible change: opening burns the sealed pack token and releases its 10 cards. You then hold individual cards instead of that unopened pack.

That makes opening a collecting decision as well as a fee decision. If you want a particular artwork, compare the available individual-card listings with the cost of buying and opening a pack. A sealed pack gives you unknown contents; a listed single lets you inspect the specific item.

Do you need an Ape to collect Mudwater?

Secondary-market access offers another route. OpenSea has separate Mudwater Packs and Mudwater Cards collections on Solana. The official Mudwater site links directly to the pack collection.

Use those official links to identify the collection. Check whether a listing is an unopened pack or an individual card, then inspect its traits and the transaction total. Prices change with listings and completed trades, so this guide does not treat a launch-day floor price as a fixed entry cost.

What the $1,000 eBay sale report tells us

The physical boxes quickly entered the resale conversation. In an Oct. 18 post, collector KRAM said an ApeFest giveaway became a $1,000 eBay sale. The described bundle included a sealed Mudwater booster box, dice, playmat and deck case.

That is a seller-reported transaction involving a bundle. Now Media could not independently verify the completed eBay order, payment or final settlement. It should be treated as an early resale report, with the accessories included in the comparison.

Separately, publicly indexed eBay results showed an ApeFest bag and booster-box listing at $999 and another 24-pack booster-box listing at $1,100. Both allowed offers. Those are asking prices, which establish what sellers hoped to receive. They do not establish what buyers paid. Source: eBay listings indexed Oct. 19.

The distinction matters when comparing a physical box with digital packs. The contents, accessories and delivery arrangements can differ. A signed card carries another variable. Multiplying a digital pack’s listed price by 24 produces a numerical comparison, but says little about whether a physical box will sell for that amount.

Collectors looking for useful price references should compare the same sealed product, check whether extras are included and look for completed transactions. One launch-weekend sale can show that a buyer existed at a particular price. It cannot establish how many buyers will follow.

What collectors are talking about

The accessible early posts show several collecting interests emerging at once. KRAM focused on the resale value of the event bundle. Spencer’s pop-up post documented card signing. In another Oct. 18 post, Spencer encouraged owners to list individual Mudwater cards on eBay, observing that the available offerings were mostly sealed products.

That singles-versus-boxes discussion is useful for understanding how a card market develops. Unopened boxes attract buyers who want the opening experience or a sealed collectible. Individual listings let people pursue a particular card. A functioning singles market can also help collectors complete a set without continually buying random packs.

Spencer has a commercial connection to the project through Orange Cap Games, so his comments belong alongside that disclosure. These posts offer a partial view of the launch conversation, with attention divided between collecting, resale and the physical experience.

How do the physical cards work?

The announced model pairs digital collectibles with physical cards held in custody. The intended conversion system lets owners redeem digital items for printed cards and return physical cards to digital form.

As of Oct. 19, the official site still labels Convert as “coming soon.” It gives the same status to Combine, the feature for assembling packs into boxes and cases. A digital card purchase therefore should not be treated as an immediately available shipping order. Source: Mudwater.

The accessible launch information does not establish a complete shipping schedule or geographic delivery policy. Collectors seeking physical copies should check those details when conversion opens. The Coinformer’s launch coverage also distinguishes the intended redemption model from currently available functionality.

Yuga’s VP of blockchain, known as 0xQuit, described the connection between an online opening and the printed inventory. In an Oct. 18 post, he said digital openings correspond to sequential physical pack openings performed by professionals in a secure warehouse room. The process is filmed, with a hash published on-chain and card metadata applied at opening. That describes an operational link between the digital opening and the physical collection.

For collectors, that makes custody and conversion policies important reading. Before arranging a physical redemption, look for the delivery destinations, shipping charges, condition standards and return requirements. Those details determine how readily a digital collection can move into a binder and back.

What are the ApeCoin rewards?

In a separate launch post, Figge presented Mudwater’s ApeCoin “reflection” mechanism as an experiment in sharing trading revenue with collectors. Launch reporting describes a 5% trading charge split into a 2.5% publisher royalty and 2.5% used to buy APE for distribution to eligible collectors. OpenSea displays a 5% creator fee on its Mudwater collections.

AirdropAlert reports weekly distributions to holders of sealed on-chain packs, boxes and cases. Confirm the current eligibility terms before assuming an individual card receives the same treatment. These are variable trading-funded rewards. They do not establish a fixed return or a guaranteed resale value for a pack.

Should you open packs or buy individual cards?

Start with what you want from the collection. If your priority is a particular image or finish, an individual listing gives you a defined target and price. You can inspect the item before buying and compare it with other copies of the same variant.

Opening a pack offers the experience of discovering its contents. Your budget should account for the pack and any opening charge. Treat the result as a random selection, with no assumption that the cards will recover what you spent.

Keeping a pack sealed preserves a different collectible. You give up seeing the cards inside while retaining the unopened item. With Mudwater’s reward mechanism tied to eligible holdings, also check which asset types qualify before changing a pack into individual cards.

Physical collectors have another choice: an item already in someone’s possession or a digital asset intended for later redemption. Compare the actual delivery terms. A listing for a sealed physical box and a token in a wallet can involve different waiting periods and costs.

What to check next

The available starting points are the game board, holder claims, pack opening and secondary-market collecting. Physical conversion and pack combining remain pending. Owned-card gameplay needs a confirmed rollout before collectors can rely on it.

If you qualify for the drop, check your allocation through the official claim page. The published cutoff is Jan. 18, 2027, at 7 p.m. Eastern.
